Strawberries, yogurt and chia seeds along with a hint of chocolate are sure to get your morning off to a great start!

Strawberry and Chia Seed Smoothie Bowl - a great start to your morning!

Looking for a new, healthy and delicious breakfast idea? Smoothie bowls fit that description for sure. Strawberry yogurt smoothie and chia seeds make up the base. Fresh strawberries, chocolate chips and more chia seeds make a flavorful and crunchy topping! It is so much more fun to eat a smoothie with lots of goodies on top, right?

My kids went crazy for these - which is a win in my book. With zero refined sugar, this is a breakfast I can totally get behind. Actually we enjoy these smoothie bowls as a snack too, it’s really great any time of day. Strawberry and Chia Seed Smoothie Bowl - a great start to your morning!

It might look a little fancy, but it’s easy to make I promise! Even if just for yourself, it is fun to make a pretty breakfast every once in a while :) My family had the discussion about whether or not it is worth it to make your food look nice before eating it. Especially for just one or two people. I am not at that point yet, but I’d like to think I will still make the food pretty for just my husband and I when the kids are gone. It sure will be quicker than making six smoothie bowls for sure!

Triple Berry Frozen Yogurt

Triple Berry Frozen Yogurt I TheWellFlouredKitchen.com

My husband and I went on a date recently. To what exciting place did we go? Blueberry picking. Quiet, peaceful blueberry picking without any sighs over how long it takes pick blueberries. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in favor of the kids putting some effort into our food, and showing them where it comes from (Cause it sure doesn’t come from our sad blueberry bushes, the birds are simply delighted with our yard). However we were alone, and happened to be near the fields, so it seemed like a great idea.

We go blueberry picking once a year, and try to stock up on enough blueberries to last 12 months. We don’t have an organic blueberry farm near us, but we have a few that use IPM. The price per pound goes down the more you buy, so it is definitely cost effective….

Orange Pineapple Yogurt Pops and The Trouble with Orange Juice

July 24, 2013 by thewellflouredkitchen 1 Comment

Orange Pineapple Yogurt Pops I TheWellFlouredKitchen.com

I wanted to call these creamsicles… Why, I don’t know. They are pale orange and the yogurt makes them kind of creamy. Have I ever had a creamsicle? No… I had no idea what they were. My husband promptly described the joys of creamsicles from his youth, alas these are not them. Maybe I’ll give it a try in the future- minus the artificial orange color.

Side note: The words Creamsicle and Popsicle are both copyrighted-please note The Well Floured Kitchen will not be calling any recipes by those names. :)

But these pops are refreshing, quick and super healthy. All thanks to my ZOKU. Do you Zoku? (sorry, couldn’t resist). Of course, these can be made in any pop mold. They are basically a frozen smoothie….

Chocolate Peanut Butter Yogurt and Granola Parfaits

June 5, 2013 by thewellflouredkitchen 8 Comments

Chocolate Peanut Butter Yogurt and Granola Parfait

Chocolate and Peanut Butter are a favorite combination around here. I love to make gooey treats featuring those flavors. But the warm weather had us craving something creamy and cold. After overindulging lately in ice cream, I wanted to make a snack that had some redeeming qualities.

Using just 4 ingredients (Dark Chocolate,Peanut Butter, Plain Yogurt and Granola), I created these parfaits that hit the spot. It has very little sugar (just honey from the granola). They were perfectly sweet enough with just a bit of tartness from the yogurt. Although you could add a drop of honey to the yogurt if desired. …

Blackberry Pomegranate Smoothies

Blackberry Pomegranate Smoothie at TheWellFlouredKitchen.com

I love my immersion blender. I use it almost everyday to puree soups, make hummus, blend tomatoes, but most often to make smoothies. It is smaller and quicker to wash than the big blender, although at the rate my three kids are growing, I’ll need to make blender size batches of smoothies soon enough.

Whole Grain Mini Chocolate Cupcakes with Dark Chocolate Yogurt Glaze

February 6, 2013 by thewellflouredkitchen 5 Comments

Chocolate is a great place for whole grains to hide out. Barley is a excellent whole grain to use in baking, because of it’s low gluten content.

I’ve chosen to use a combination of organic sugar and sucanat in this recipe. Sucanat does have a strong molasses flavor, and I like to use it in moderation for dessert recipes. Particularly if you are serving to a crowd unfamiliar with the taste….
