Have your cake and ice cream all rolled into one. Smooth creamy ice cream studded with chunks of rich, buttery pound cake and dark chocolate chunks.
Summer time is for ice cream, and we’ve been having fun creating some new flavors with my Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. I have one that doesn’t need to go in the freezer first. It’s a bit of an indulgence, but perfect for someone like me who would never remember to actually place the ice cream maker in the freezer ahead of time. But oh man is it loud! Like freight train in your kitchen kind of loud. Convenience comes with a price. We try to find somewhere else to be while it is running.
Ice cream probably wouldn’t top my list of desserts to have (you’ll find me in the corner scarfing down homemade oreos or vanilla butter cookies), but I do enjoy it occasionally. My husband and kids would likely pick ice cream over anything else! They are more than happy when I pass over my serving.
After I tasted vanilla bean pound cake chocolate chunk ice cream, I didn’t want to share anymore.
I am a bit picky when it comes to buying ice cream, I like it to have ingredients I can pronounce and feel comfortable feeding my family. By making our own I can control what goes into it. Cream, milk, sugar, vanilla – voila! I used a bit of cream cheese in this recipe for body and texture, but it’s not completely necessary.
When we were deciding on fillings, I remembered a chunk of Brown Sugar Pound Cake from my last Mystery Dish challenge that I had stashed in the freezer. Cake and ice cream in one bite – yes please! Since chocolate makes everything better, in went the chocolate chunks.
My daughter was looking at the pictures and wanted to know why there was a piece of bread in the background. Um, so much for artistry. In case it’s not clear, that’s pound cake, and not bread. Please don’t put bread in your ice cream. I also don’t normally cut my bread in wedges, a fact clearly lost on my children.
